What's new in SheetAI

New features, improvements and fixes reach SheetAI continuously. The ones that change how you use it are listed here by the date they went live. Fixes and changes are written up as plainly as the new features.

Dates from Excel files stay dates

Dates in an Excel file you open in SheetAI now come in as real dates, so date formulas, sorting and charts work on them. Suggested follow-ups also stopped offering work that was already done.

  • FixedSpreadsheet

Dates in uploaded Excel files stay real dates. They used to come in as text, so a formula like =A2+30, sorting by date, and charts over dates did not work on them. Sheets you opened before today keep their text dates; open the original file again to get real ones.

  • FixedChat

Suggested follow-ups no longer offer work that is already done. After SheetAI double-checked its own work, the suggestions could propose the very steps it had just finished.

#

See what a web search found

When SheetAI looks something up on the web, the step now shows what it searched for, what it found and where it came from, on the website and in both add-ins.

  • ImprovedChat

See what a web search found. When SheetAI looks something up, the step shows the search, the findings, and links to the pages they came from, so you can check a figure at its source. This works on the website and in the Excel and Google Sheets add-ins.

  • ImprovedChat

In the Excel and Google Sheets add-ins, a web lookup now reads "Searching the web" while it runs and "Searched the web" when it is done, like every other step.

AI formulas in Excel, and a more dependable assistant

The twelve AI formulas from the Google Sheets add-on now work in Excel too. You can save what SheetAI just did as a skill, and updates no longer cut off an answer in progress. The assistant keeps track of your tabs, and a workbook that fails to load can no longer replace your saved one. Opening files, find and replace, and the add-in panels behave better too.

  • NewExcel

AI formulas in Excel. Type =SHEETAI.AI_ASK("your question") in a cell, or summarize, translate, classify, extract, reformat, tag, score sentiment, fill a range, generate a list, write a formula or explain one, and fill it down a column. Settings in the SheetAI pane lists all twelve and has a builder that writes the formula for you. If you added SheetAI to Excel before today, download the file again and add it once more to get them.

  • NewChat

Save what SheetAI just did as a skill. After a job turns out the way you like, say "save this as a skill" and SheetAI writes the steps down as your own command, ready to run on your next sheet of the same kind. You can also import a skill file made for other AI tools, or download your skills to keep or share, in Settings → Skills.

    Your own skills →
  • ImprovedChat

Updates no longer interrupt you. SheetAI now waits until no answer is being written before it updates, so a reply is not cut off halfway. If a connection ever does drop mid-answer, the chat says so and picks up where it stopped, and an open tab or the Excel pane lets you know when a new version is ready.

  • ImprovedAgent

The assistant keeps track of your tabs. It sees them by their real names, knows when one was renamed, deleted or duplicated, and reads the new order after a sort or after rows were moved. Duplicating a tab now works.

  • ImprovedSpreadsheet

Opening files. A file you open goes into its own tab when the current tab already has data, row heights from Excel files are kept, and a failed upload shows an error instead of an empty workbook.

  • FixedExcel

The SheetAI pane could open as a blank white panel in Excel. It now starts reliably, and if it ever cannot start it says so instead of showing nothing.

  • FixedGoogle Sheets

Opening the details of a step no longer jumps the chat to the bottom, and you can scroll up to read earlier steps while the assistant is still working.

  • FixedSpreadsheet

Your saved work is protected. A workbook that failed to load could open as a blank sheet and then be saved over the real one. Loading now retries, and a blank page can never replace a saved workbook.

  • FixedSpreadsheet

Find and replace leaves the rest alone. It changes only the cells that match: formulas stay formulas, numbers stay numbers, and pattern replacements that reuse part of the match now work.

SheetAI for Microsoft Excel

The SheetAI assistant now works inside Excel, in a pane beside your workbook, on the web, Windows and Mac.

  • NewExcel

The Excel add-in. Open SheetAI from the Home tab and ask in plain language: it reads your sheets, writes values and formulas, builds tables and charts, formats, sorts and filters, right in your workbook. It uses your SheetAI account and credits.

The assistant asks, explains as it goes, and suggests what's next

When a request is unclear, the assistant can now stop and ask you, then carry on in the same reply. You see what it is doing while it works, and each answer ends with ideas for your next step.

  • NewChat

Questions while it works. When a choice would change the result (which currency, which layout, which period), the assistant pauses and asks, with its recommended option first and an Other box for your own answer. Pick one and it continues the same reply with your answer, without starting over. Skip it and the assistant goes with its recommendation and tells you so.

  • NewChat

Suggested follow-ups. Each reply ends with three next steps written for your sheet; click one to send it. The list is open by default and can be collapsed, and you can turn suggestions off in Settings → Permissions.

  • ImprovedAgent

You can follow along while the assistant works. Before each set of changes it writes a short line saying what it is about to do, or what it just found, instead of staying silent until the end.

  • FixedSpreadsheet

Dropdown lists the assistant adds now appear on your sheet, with the arrow in each cell and the list of choices ready to pick from. Before, it could report a dropdown as added when none showed up.

Connect your apps, and use SheetAI from other AI apps

SheetAI now speaks the open connector standard (MCP) in both directions. Pull data from Notion, Stripe, Airtable, Jira and more into your sheets, or work on your SheetAI spreadsheets from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code. Type / for skills and @ to point at a tab or an app.

  • NewAgent

Connect apps to SheetAI from Settings → Connectors. A curated directory offers one-click sign-in for Notion, Stripe, Airtable, Linear, Jira and Confluence, monday.com, Supabase and PayPal (with GitHub and Zapier by API key), and any other MCP server can be added by URL. Once connected, the assistant can read from those apps and land the data on your sheet.

  • NewAccounts

Use SheetAI from other AI apps. Add SheetAI as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code or any MCP-compatible tool, sign in, and it can list your spreadsheets, read and query cells, write rows and create sheets. Personal access tokens cover tools that cannot sign in, and you can see and revoke every app with access from Settings → Connectors.

  • NewChat

Slash commands and skills. Type / to run a skill such as /analyze, /clean, /pivot, /chart, /dashboard, /formulas, /validate or /forecast, or any prompt saved in your library. The assistant knows the list too and applies the right skill on its own when your request matches. Settings → Skills shows them all, lets you switch built-ins off, and lets you write your own.

  • NewChat

@ mentions. Type @ to point at a tab, a connected app, or an item inside that app; the assistant treats it as the subject of your request.

  • NewGoogle Sheets

The Google Sheets add-on gets the same connectors, slash commands and @ mentions, so apps you connected on the web are available inside Sheets.

  • NewChat

You can see skills at work. When you run a skill or the assistant picks one itself, the reply shows a "Skill loaded" card with the command and a View steps toggle, and your own message shows the command as a pill.

  • NewAgent

When a request needs an app you have not connected, the assistant now puts that app in front of you: a card with its icon, what connecting it unlocks and a Connect button that starts the sign-in on the spot. Apps outside the directory get a shortcut to add any MCP server by URL.

  • ImprovedSpreadsheet

A better experience on phones. The workspace header now fits a small screen: the toolbar collapses to icons, and export, print and sharing live in a dropdown that never gets cut off at the edge. Marketing pages open their menu in a full-width drawer built for touch.

  • ImprovedSpreadsheet

My Sheets shows which sheets are shared and with how many people, and a badge opens the Share dialog directly. Public links gained Export and Print. Opening the workspace as a guest always starts from a clean, empty sheet.

  • ImprovedChat

A cleaner composer. The message box is one card with the attach, skills and connectors buttons in a row beneath the text, and every setting now sits under it in plain view: Act / Ask / Plan, Manual / Auto-accept, and the thinking level from Off to Max. No more drop-ups to open; one click switches any of them.

  • ImprovedChat

The / menu got tabs: All, Skills, Commands and Prompts, with a count on each. Every row shows the command as a pill, what kind of thing it is, where it comes from and what it does. Tab cycles the tabs from the keyboard.

Bring your team into SheetAI

Business now gives one team a shared place to work with SheetAI, with simple controls for who can spend credits and open your sheets.

  • NewPlans & credits

Business teams share a monthly credit pool. Owners can set individual monthly limits, while personal credits and subscriptions stay separate.

  • NewAccounts

Invite colleagues by email or with a secure link, choose member or admin access, suspend or remove people, and see recent team activity. Owners control the team; admins can manage regular members.

  • NewSpreadsheet

Owners can assign their sheets to teammates with view, comment or edit access. Assigned sheets appear in Shared with me, and your ownership and separate shares remain unchanged.

#

See exactly what SheetAI changed, and undo any cell

Every cell SheetAI writes now carries its own history: what was there before, what it is now, why it was changed and which request asked for it. Undo one cell, one step, or a whole reply.

  • NewSpreadsheet

Select any cell SheetAI wrote and a small panel shows what it held before, what it holds now, the formula and its current result, why it was changed, and the request that led to it. Undo that single cell, or every cell from the same step, from right there.

  • NewChat

Each reply that changed the sheet now lists what it changed: which ranges, how many cells, how many are formulas. Click a range to jump to it, even on another tab; expand a step to see every cell before and after; undo or redo per step or per cell.

  • ImprovedAgent

Changed ranges are outlined in the sheet while you review them, and the "Keep these changes?" prompt tells you exactly how many cells and formulas it covers, and in which ranges, instead of asking you to take it on trust.

  • ImprovedAgent

Formulas SheetAI writes are checked against their live result, so a formula that errors is flagged in red beside the change rather than left for you to find.

#

Talk to SheetAI while it works

You no longer have to wait for a task to finish, or stop it, to say one more thing. Send a message mid-task and SheetAI reads it at its next step.

  • NewChat

You can send a message while a task is running. It waits just above the message box and SheetAI picks it up at its next step, without losing any of the work it has already done - and it can correct work that is already on the sheet, not only the part still to come.

  • FixedAgent

A plan you approved no longer reappears once the work is finished, where accepting it again would repeat the whole task.

#

A plan offered in the middle of a task

Plan mode is no longer something you have to remember to switch into. When a request is large, or could be read more than one way, SheetAI can offer you a plan first and carry straight on from your answer.

  • NewAgent

SheetAI can propose a plan partway through a task. Approve it, edit it, or tell it to skip the plan and get on with the work.

  • NewChat

A small gauge beside your credit balance appears when a task is getting long enough to cost noticeably more, so a big job cannot surprise you at the end.

  • ImprovedGoogle Sheets

The Google Sheets sidebar handles plan proposals the same way the web app does, and approving one continues the task rather than starting it again.

#

Approving a plan keeps your place

Approving a plan used to send you back to the beginning. It now picks up exactly where the plan was proposed.

  • ImprovedAgent

Approving a plan continues the task you were already in, with everything it had worked out so far, rather than beginning again from scratch.

SheetAI checks its own work

The most frustrating thing an assistant can do is tell you a job is finished when it is not. It now checks before it says so.

  • NewAgent

SheetAI reviews what it wrote against what you asked before telling you a task is done.

#

Long jobs run to the end

Two changes for larger pieces of work: whole documents are read, and a long task is seen through.

  • ImprovedChat

Attached documents are read in full wherever they fit, so nothing relevant to your question is missed.

  • ImprovedAgent

Long, multi-step jobs run to completion instead of stopping partway with a summary of what was coming next.

#

The Google Sheets add-on, rebuilt

The sidebar could do less than the web app. It now does the same work, in your own spreadsheet.

  • NewGoogle Sheets

Charts you ask for in the sidebar are inserted as real Google Sheets charts.

  • NewGoogle Sheets

Everything the web app can do to a spreadsheet now works in the sidebar too.

  • NewGoogle Sheets

    Attachments in the sidebar.

  • ImprovedAccounts

Settings tabs reordered so the ones people open most are nearer the top.

  • FixedAgent

Fixed a case where a task could sit waiting for an approval it was never going to ask you for.

#

Templates, and nothing left called Untitled

Twenty ready-made workbooks to start from, and an end to spreadsheets and chats that all look the same in a list.

  • NewSpreadsheet

Four new templates, bringing the library to twenty ready-made workbooks - budgets, invoices, trackers and more.

  • NewChat

Chats are named after what you asked for, so your history reads as a list of jobs rather than a column of timestamps.

  • NewSpreadsheet

Spreadsheets you never got round to naming are given a sensible name from what is in them. There is a setting if you would rather they were left alone.

  • ImprovedSpreadsheet

The sixteen existing templates were rebuilt, each with its own page explaining what it is for and what to change first.

  • FixedAgent

Fixed a group of questions about your data that had been failing to run.

#

Settings that save as you change them

No Save button in the sidebar.

  • ImprovedGoogle Sheets

Every setting in the Google Sheets add-on saves the moment you change it, and the model and thinking level you pick apply immediately.

#

Exports that look like your spreadsheet

Export stopped flattening your formatting, and SheetAI became a good deal more careful about what a long task costs you.

  • ImprovedSpreadsheet

PDF export and print keep your formatting - fills, borders, number formats and column widths - instead of reducing the sheet to a plain table of values.

  • ImprovedAgent

SheetAI keeps track of what a task is costing as it works and stays economical, so a long job no longer runs up a bill you did not expect.
