SheetAI MCP server

Your spreadsheets, inside the AI apps you already use

SheetAI is a remote MCP server. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code or any MCP-compatible app, sign in once, and that app can list, read, query and edit your SheetAI spreadsheets. Looking for the other direction, connecting Notion or HubSpot into SheetAI? That is Connectors.

Server URL
https://sheetai.co/api/mcp

Streamable HTTP. OAuth 2.1 sign-in is discovered automatically; personal access tokens work as a bearer header.

Set up in a minute

Add SheetAI to your app

Every guide below is also in Settings → MCP server, with the URL and commands ready to copy.

Claude

claude.ai and the desktop app

  1. 1Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. 2Paste https://sheetai.co/api/mcp and choose “Sign in now”.
  3. 3Approve access on the SheetAI screen, then enable SheetAI from the + menu in a chat.

ChatGPT

developer mode on your plan

  1. 1Settings → Connectors → Create.
  2. 2Paste https://sheetai.co/api/mcp, choose OAuth, and sign in.
  3. 3Pick SheetAI from the tools menu when you start a chat.

Claude Code

terminal

  1. 1claude mcp add --transport http sheetai https://sheetai.co/api/mcp
  2. 2Type /mcp and sign in when prompted.
  3. 3Ask for a sheet by name; Claude Code lists and reads it.

Cursor / VS Code

mcp.json

  1. 1Add { "mcpServers": { "sheetai": { "url": "https://sheetai.co/api/mcp" } } } to mcp.json.
  2. 2Sign in when the editor prompts.
  3. 3Or skip sign-in with an Authorization: Bearer <personal access token> header.

Any MCP app

Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Goose, Zed, Zapier, n8n, Make, your own agent

  1. 1Add a remote MCP server with the URL above and transport “Streamable HTTP”.
  2. 2Sign in when the app prompts; OAuth is discovered automatically.
  3. 3No OAuth in that app? Create a personal access token in Settings → MCP server.
What the app can do

Nine tools, two permission levels

Read tools need the read scope. Write tools need the write scope, which you grant separately at sign-in or when creating a token. Your spreadsheets also appear as resources (attach one from the app’s picker), and two ready-made prompts, Summarize a spreadsheet and Answer a question from a sheet, show up as commands in apps that support them.

Read · sheets:read

  • get_meWho you are: name, plan, credits left, team, spreadsheet counts, links to Settings.
  • list_spreadsheetsEvery spreadsheet you own or can open, with ids, links and paging.
  • get_spreadsheetOne workbook's tabs, sizes, headers and a sample of each.
  • read_rangeThe values in an A1 range, formulas included.
  • query_sheetA SQL query over one tab: filter, aggregate, sort, join in-sheet.
  • get_sheet_csvA whole tab as CSV, ready to hand to another tool.

Write · sheets:write

  • write_rangeWrite values or formulas starting at a cell; the range grows to fit.
  • append_rowsAdd rows under the last used row of a tab.
  • create_spreadsheetStart a new workbook, with optional tabs and starting data.
You stay in control

Sign-in, scopes, tokens, revocation

An app connects through OAuth 2.1 with PKCE: it registers itself, sends you to a SheetAI consent screen that names the app and the access it asks for, and gets a short-lived token scoped to exactly that. Refresh tokens rotate on every use, so a leaked old token is useless. Every connected app is listed in Settings → MCP server with a Disconnect button.

Read the full guide
  • Two scopes. sheets:read and sheets:write. Grant read only, and no tool can change a cell.
  • Personal access tokens. For apps and scripts without a sign-in flow. Read-only or read and write, optional expiry, shown once, revocable.
  • Rate limited. 240 requests per minute per account, with Retry-After when exceeded.
  • Standard everywhere. RFC 8414 and 9728 discovery, dynamic client registration, Streamable HTTP. Nothing SheetAI-specific to learn.
For developers

Plain JSON-RPC over HTTPS

Any MCP client library works. To try it by hand, create a personal access token in Settings → MCP server and list the tools:

curl -X POST https://sheetai.co/api/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sai_pat_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'

Discovery: /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server and /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource on sheetai.co. Registration: /api/oauth/register.

Questions

The MCP server, answered

It lets the AI app you already work in reach your SheetAI spreadsheets. Ask Claude to summarize a sheet, have Claude Code append test results to a tab, or let a Cursor agent read a lookup table. The app talks to SheetAI over the Model Context Protocol, the open standard for giving AI assistants tools.
