Templates

Start faster with a spreadsheet template

Use a ready-made structure for common work, then adjust it to fit the way your team actually operates.

Choose a starting point

Find a structure that matches the job

Visit the template gallery and browse by the kind of work you need to organize. A good template gives you useful headings, sections, and formulas without forcing you to keep details that do not apply.

Choose based on the decision the sheet should support, not just the words in its title. A project tracker, for example, should make ownership, timing, and status easy to see.

Customize

Make the template yours

  • Rename the file and sheets so people know what they are looking at.
  • Replace sample values with a small set of real data.
  • Remove sections you will not maintain.
  • Check formulas after adding or deleting columns.
  • Add a short note that explains the workflow or update cadence.

Add intelligence

Use the assistant after the structure is right

Templates work best as a starting point. Once the layout fits, ask SheetAI to add a summary, explain a formula, identify missing values, or create a chart from a named range. Be clear about what should remain unchanged.

If you are not sure which structure you need, begin with Getting Started and let the first question reveal the next useful section.

Make it maintainable

Design the template for the next person

A template earns its place when someone can open it later and understand what to update. Use clear labels, keep examples separate from live entries, and make the update rhythm obvious.

Add a small instructions area when the workflow has a non-obvious rule. Explain where new rows go, which cells are calculated, and what the status or category values mean.

Template categories

Choose the right starting shape

The gallery brings together business, finance, personal, and education templates. Business templates help with planning and operations. Finance templates focus on budgets, expenses, and financial visibility. Personal templates are useful for everyday planning, while education templates support classes, study, and administration.

You do not have to keep a template exactly as delivered. Use the first version to learn which columns matter, then remove the parts your workflow will not maintain. A smaller sheet that people update consistently is more useful than a complete sheet that nobody trusts.

A useful template test

Ask someone else to use it once

After customizing a template, give it to someone who did not build it and ask them to complete one normal task. Notice where they hesitate, which headings need explanation, and whether the expected result is visible without a personal walkthrough.

Use that feedback to simplify the layout. Templates should reduce decisions, not create a new set of instructions that only the original author understands.
