Google Sheets add-on

Use SheetAI inside Google Sheets

Keep your spreadsheet where it already lives and use SheetAI for formulas, analysis, cleanup, and other everyday tasks.

Before you begin

Choose the right place for your work

SheetAI is available as a Google Sheets add-on for people who prefer to work inside an existing Google spreadsheet. Visit the Google Sheets add-on page for the current installation and availability details.

Use a copy of an important spreadsheet for your first test. Check the selected range, the output, and any permissions requested by Google before you work with a live file.

A first task

Start with a small, clear request

  1. Open the Google Sheet you want to work with.
  2. Open SheetAI from the add-on menu or task pane.
  3. Select a focused range with useful headings.
  4. Ask for one result, such as an explanation, formula, cleanup, or summary.
  5. Review the result in the sheet before continuing.

Use both experiences well

Choose the surface that fits the job

Google Sheets is a natural choice when your team already collaborates there. The SheetAI web workspace is useful when you want the full editor, file import, templates, or the broader assistant experience in one place.

For better results in either surface, include the sheet name, range, desired output, and anything that must remain unchanged. The prompting guide has examples.

Good add-on tasks

Start with work that benefits from context

  • Explain a formula that is already in the sheet.
  • Create a consistent category for a selected group of rows.
  • Find blanks, duplicates, or unusual values in a focused range.
  • Summarize a table without changing the original entries.
  • Add a calculation after confirming the target column and rule.

Keep the first request small enough to review in the sheet. When a task needs several stages, plan the work before making changes and keep the source values available for comparison.

If the add-on is not visible

Check the account and the sheet first

Make sure you are viewing a Google Sheet and that the add-on was installed from the official marketplace listing. If the task pane does not appear, close and reopen the sheet, then check the Extensions menu again.

Some actions may ask you to sign in or confirm access. Read the request and continue only when it matches the work you intended to do. If the issue remains, use the FAQ or Contact support.

Working with a team

Keep the shared sheet easy to review

Use clear headings and a dedicated input area when several people work in the same Google Sheet. Keep calculated columns separate from entries people are expected to update, and protect important ranges when the workbook supports it.

If the team also uses the SheetAI web workspace, agree on where the finished version belongs. The same sheet can be useful in both places, but an obvious source of truth prevents people from editing an outdated copy.
